On the night of October 23, 2018, the phone call I received seemed unreal to believe of what had happened. My cousin Ashley, her son Giovanni, and her brother Azariah, had all been involved in an almost fatal car crash. With all of them living in Fort Worth, Texas, our family freaked out with many things going through our heads and imagining the worst. As Ashley, driving with the kids to a fun place because of Azariah’s birthday, was turning onto a street with the signal of a traffic light. The other driver seemed to be speeding on the busy street, and as soon as Ashley turned, the two vehicles collided and created much damage.

The door of Ashley’s car became dented and the two windows of the right side of the car, shattered into pieces. However, the other driver was intoxicated and when the collision occurred, the person drove away without stopping! The only information gathered from the scene was the driver’s license plate number and the car’s model. Since Ashley and Giovanni were on the other side of the car, they both faced some serious bruises, scratches, and soreness. However, Azariah suffered the most as he experienced head damage and acquired a concussion by being on the right side of the car. 

“The event had happened so fast. I still can’t believe this actually happened to us. I would always see stuff like this in movies and tv shows, and I was afraid that would someday happen to me. In which it did, on my brother’s birthday!” Said Ashley, after I called her a day later. 

Our family freaked out and kept thinking of the worst possibilities. However, after the event happened, they were all sent to the hospital immediately and were eventually okay. The news seemed so unreal to believe, and I kept saying to my brother and mom that “things will be okay.”  In which they were as they went trick-or-treating on Halloween days later!
