Do you ever feel like you keep watching the same romance film over and over again?
The Notebook (2004), a classic romance, portrays the heartbreak of losing your significant other to Alzheimer’s disease. The movie demonstrates your old school classic plot with a tragic, but realistic ending. On the other hand, taking a turn into modern romance films, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018) shows the basic plot of how the main female character eventually ends up with her childhood crush; however, the viewers see this coming from the introduction.
An old romance film differs from today in a way that it showcased some form of tragedy, an unpredictable plot, and a time frame that clearly demonstrates character development to grasp the audience’s attention.
Compromising plays an important component, but a good film should include that you cannot change completely for the other person. People prefer the predictable movies today because some find it nice to know that the happy ending awaits.
