The Not So Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

In my sophomore year, my English teacher named Mrs. Henry asked us to read The Great Gatsby over winter break. Coming back from the Christmas break on a Monday, Mrs. Henry gave us a test worth, twenty percent of our grade, to reflect over the book. Once we took the test, she said they would be graded in about two days. I contemplated whether I did a great job or I bombed it completely. When I received the test, I barely failed it and disappointment really took over me. Even though Mrs. Henry offered redos in the next two days after we took the exam, and would the second attempt grade would replace the first one, I still wanted that passing high grade on the first try.

I took the redo and redeemed myself greatly,, by getting a ninety-five on the second attempt. I knew I worked hard during those two days to prepare for the test. Mrs. Henry even told my mother, at a parent-teacher conference a week after the second attempt, that I made her proud on redeeming myself dramatically. I felt very accomplished and relieved.

Overall, I learned that if you do not first succeed, always try again as you may better yourself and feel accomplished!

Team Work

Being in a team can be overwhelming with the amount of work given and having your teammates complete them in a certain amount of time. With feeling anxious about your teammates not completing the work on time, afraid your work is not good enough, and wanting to give up about everything, should all be avoided and working with a team should be fun. Working together makes everything seem easier, but the same amount of effort applied in a project, or anything else, needs to be shown easily.

On working on a project, communication plays a huge role in a team. Collaborating, getting feedback about each others ideas, and showing ways to improve them, will definitely lead your group to success. Make sure everyone knows what they are supposed to do in the project and knows how to do it properly. A lot of the times in a group, people struggle with doing their part because they do not know how to do it in the first place. Including how to make it look professional, colorful, and presentable to the audience. Considering this step in seeing how members in the group should do their part, is crucial in a group project. Despite the problems that may arise in a group project, there are positive benefits that come along as well. Such as increasing creativity, blending strengths, building trust and more.
